Several UK banks report online banking outage

Several major UK banks have reported issues with their online banking services.

Nationwide, First Direct, Lloyds, Halifax and TSB have all experienced problems with customers being able to access online banking services this morning, including making payments.

Nationwide said: “We’ve identified an issue that was causing a delay to some incoming and outgoing payments. We’re now processing the queued payments, although we ask customers to bear with us as we complete their transactions. There is no need for people to resend payments. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

TSB said: “We’re aware of industry-wide issues this morning, and that some of our customers are unable to log into our mobile app, and internet banking. We apologise for this and are working hard to resolve it.”

First Direct reported similar issues, but has since confirmed they have been resolved.

It is unclear what has caused today’s disruption, but banks are already under pressure from Parliament to address tech issues that impact customers. They were asked earlier this month by the Treasury Committee to report on their IT outages from the past two years, including whether they have compensated customers.
